Accused Of Unlawfully Passing A School Bus? Our Queens Traffic Defense Lawyer Can Help.

The law in New York is very strict with regard to failing to stop for a school bus while passengers are entering or exiting the bus. However, before you pay the fine for allegedly passing the bus unlawfully, talk to us.

You have a right to challenge the ticket at trial or, in some cases, seek a reduction of the charge, but you need an experienced New York traffic defense lawyer on your side as soon as possible. With more than 35 years of experience in these matters, our founding attorney at the Law Office of Randy S. Alpert is here to represent you and protect your rights and future.

Possible Penalties For Failing To Stop For A School Bus In New York

If you are accused of unlawfully passing a school bus, it is important to know what is at stake. The penalties for a conviction may include:

  • 8 points on your driver’s license for each conviction for unlawfully passing a school bus (note: accumulating 11 points can result in a driver’s license suspension)
  • A fine of $250 to $400 for a first conviction; a fine of $600 to $750 for a second violation within a three-year period; a fine of $750 to $1,500 for a third violation within a three-year period
  • Up to 30 days in jail for a first offense; up to 180 days in jail for a second offense within a three-year period; up to another 180 days in jail for a third offense within a three-year period
  • A third offense also results in a mandatory revocation of your driver’s license, regardless of the number of points you have accumulated

In many cases, it is possible to have a failure to stop for a school bus ticket reduced or dismissed, but it is crucial that you get help from an experienced traffic ticket attorney. Our founding attorney, Randy Alpert, is a former Queens County prosecutor with extensive experience in traffic ticket defense and criminal defense. We can help you seek a favorable outcome in your case.
